Area Man Denied Gym Membership

by Vikram 13 years ago
written by Vikram

Area Man Denied Gym Membership, originally uploaded by hpk. According to latest reports area man Jamil Ahmed (name changed) was denied membership to the local gym (name with held). Jamil accused that he was asked to produce recommendations from a respected member of the society before he would be allowed to pump iron along with the local hunks. Things grew ugly when Jamil, who is an actor by profession and has been a resident of the society (name withheld) since birth, was again denied membership when he produced verbal recommendation from a respected member of the society. Jamil was asked by Gokul das, gym proprietor, to get written recommendation from a respectable member of the society. Anahita, a budding actress and a regular member of the gym, testified “I don’t know what the fuss is about, Gokul uncle was so nice with me, no really”. Another member, only identified as aunty lobo, said, “I’ve know Jamil since he was a kid. He’s as ordinary as they come. No idea why they don’t want him there.”However, Unmesh shukla, another society resident questioned Jamil’s sudden interest in the gym. He said, “I’ve seen the boy since he was a kid, he never showed any interest in body building activities, but off late, he’s been coming late at night, dressing up, and acting all religious and stuff. This is not normal behavior and we must investigate.”Society chairman, Mr. Bansal Suri, categorically denied the rumors that Jamil’s tenant agreement would be revoked and said, “So far we have no reasons to ask Jamil to leave the society. The gyms decision while unfortunate must be looked into in its entirety. After all, they must have has a reason to deny membership.”

Gym authorities were unavailable for comment when contacted.

but people are assholes…

people are asshole cartoon image

including me of course.

…but what if
…but how can you
…but we can’t
…but where will we
…but why
…but is it possible

and so on… This is our usual response when we are presented and idea or a suggestion or any thing. It always starts with the negative. I guess we are hard wired to be negative. Instead of concentrating on the merits of the idea, we begin trying to find faults in it. For example, if you say, “education should be free for all”. Immediately people will start asking questions like:

but won’t it create a big dent in our GDP?
but where will we the money come from?
but who will manage this?
but what about the infrastructure?
but who will decide what to teach?
but politicians will use this as a campaigning point.

and so one… assholes people generally concentrate on pulling the idea down instead of working to achieve the goal. I don’t know if this is a cultural thing but when I talk to people belonging to other countries, firangs as we know them in India, they approach to such situations in a more positive way. They’d be like, “Now we gotta get this done, lets see what are the bottle necks… and how can we remove them.” This is so refreshing then our desi conversations. I admit I do this often enough but this should change. This is one area I would love to see us Indians imitate the west. Amen.

Text Book Usability Issues

Funny video multiple connotations. Some may see it as a jib at the past and some might find it a comment on our spoon fed society. Some may find this as a useful tool to explain what is usability, to basic humans. The video has many layrs. Pretty neat.

Side note: I hope UCD/UX/etc people don’t over do their “thing” and render our future generations addicted to spoon feeding. Just a thought.

QTech Inc. People, India

by Vikram 19 years ago
written by Vikram

These are the people I work with every day. Recently we released our second produce called reQall (first being speaQ ) and (ahem… ahem…) its been making some news I must say. Check: here, here, here, here, here, here, here, etc…

This is the first time I have been a part of some thing that has won any thing let alone did well. Relief! This proves I wasn’t a curse to every other place I’ve worked. I would like to claim that the success being enjoyed by reQall is the product of my unflinching hard work and dedication, but I would be wrong. It is also a product of my imagination, creativity, leadership and a few other qualities I would not like to discuss in public. Of course there was also some inspired effort by every one else in the company because of which I am willing to forgive all their sin’s (for now).

On this occasion I would also like to hit back on the people who constantly badgered me to disclose what I was doing in the past seven months. I am sure they all were trying to make me feel bad about working in a startup with no fame. Here is your answer… here, here, here, here, here, here, here, etc…

February has been good. I hope to lead QTech Inc. to success through out the year (as I have done so far)… May we get more money and less work. God bless America. Amen.

Best time to leave your boy friend…

by Vikram 19 years ago

When to leave your boy friend

Over the years I have come to believe the right time to leave your boy friend is when he starts whining phrases like “you are my strength, inspiration etc”. More often then not these words are followed/preceded by constant badgering on the phone, more then frequent house calls, and emotional black mail and in extreme cases abusive behavior. This is the time when you should start paying attention to your long suppressed inner voice which had been saying – I’ve had enough!

Nothing is as irritating as getting call after call from “that swine“ when you are enjoying “sex on the beach” + “Srilankan fish deep fried in banana leaves” with your date the new cool dude. You are in an awkward position, don’t want to be rude and the swine is not listening to your polite, I’ll call you later or I can’t talk now or I am a little busy and the dude sitting opposite is wondering whats happening. And then you put down the phone flustered/annoyed/guilt-ed/etc and the new cool dude asks – who was it? And you get into this dilemma, shall I say my X (na too early), an old friend (how will I explain my reaction), a crank caller (how will I explain I’ll call you later), my brother (won’t hold), father (same), mother (can never work)… No. No matter what you say, the new cool dude will know. And then you get that condescending talk – Oh I know how it feels like etc…

What’s the point of it all? Are bhai kyun itna sir dard lena? Dump him at the first sign of whining… After all, you don’t want to be with some one who soaks his strength, inspiration, etc from you! What happens when you run out of supply???
